Assistance League of Irvine has announced that its annual "Operation School Bell" program will kick off the week of Aug. 12 for year-round schools and the week of Sept. 2 for schools on the traditional calendar.

Operation School Bell is a free, confidential community service that offers school clothes and other necessities to the children of low-income families -- specifically Irvine students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The program has served more than 7,000 students in IUSD since it started back in 1990. From August through November, Assistance League will offer gift cards to help families purchase shoes and clothes at local stores, as well as school supplies and personal hygiene kits. Applications will be available at school offices within the district. Once submitted, an Assistance League volunteer will respond within 20 days. For more information, visit the Assistance League of Irvine’s website. Or click here to email the Operation School Bell coordinator.
