Purposeful Technology
In IUSD, we believe technology is a powerful tool for learning. To ensure it remains a positive force in our students' lives, we have established proactive 'guardrails' that support sleep, hygiene, reduce digital distractions, and prioritize mental well-being.
Improve Readiness:
Ensuring students arrive at school rested and ready to learn.
Promote Healthy Digital Habits:
Proactive filtering system of focus.
Support Intentionality:
Encouraging students to use devices as tools for creation and educational support, not just consumption.
Student Web Filtering Standards
- PK-8 Daily Device "Bedtime": All internet access on PK-8 student Chromebooks will be automatically disabled from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM daily, including weekends.
- PK-8 Enhanced Content Filtering: To limit high-distraction content, we’re increasing our web and YouTube filtering for categories like Gaming, Comedy, YouTube Shorts, and Entertainment.
- HS Enhanced Content Filtering: To limit high-distraction content on YouTube, we’re removing student access to YouTube Shorts and disabling auto-play.
Supporting Independence and Readiness
We recognize that high school students face unique responsibilities as they prepare for college and career independence. Our approach for grades 9-12 focuses on balancing academic freedom with wellness through a collaborative, community-driven process.
- A Collaborative Approach: We actively partner with students, staff, and families to design guardrails that specifically support the high school experience.
- Student & Family Input: Feedback is gathered via Student Advisory focus groups, Education Advisory committees, and the Annual Survey to ensure our policies reflect the needs of our community.
- Focus on Digital Citizenship: High school students continue to receive instruction on responsible digital use and must adhere to the District’s Acceptable Use Agreement.
- Preparing for the Future: Our goal is to help students develop the self-regulation skills and healthy technology habits necessary for success both in and beyond high school.
Current Status: Following the conclusion of our collaborative focus groups, the district will establish and share a finalized plan for high school Chromebook standards.
Partnering with Parents
The Blocksi Parent Dashboard
