Irvine Unified School District hires substitute teachers from August through February of each school year. Please visit Edjoin.org/IUSD for all available positions in our district.
The Daily Sub rate is $180/full day (anything over 4 hours) and $95/half day (anything under 4 hours). The long term rate is $220/day and goes into effect on the 16th consecutive day in the same assignment.

If you need to obtain an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit, the easiest way to acquire one is to contact the Orange County Department of Education Credentials Department to apply for your permit.
What are the requirements for the 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit?
- Bachelor’s Degree earned
- Basic Skills Requirement met - Senate Bill 153 allows the Basic Skills Requirement to be met by a bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
