Substitute Teaching Employment Process

Applications for substitute teachers are accepted only when posted on our employment Opportunities page. When posted, priority will be given to credentialed applicants.

The current rate of pay for substitute teachers is $125.00 per day. The long-term rate is $160.00 (on the 16th day in the same assignment).

The application process for substitute teaching positions with the Irvine Unified School District is outlined below. We require a completed application and all supporting materials be submitted before consideration for your candidacy.

What are the requirements?

  • Bachelor's degree earned
  • California Clear Teaching Credential or Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit
  • CBEST exam passed

How do I apply?

  • Complete the On-Line Application for a Substitute teaching position via EdJoin.org (when posted)
  • Electronically attach (scan & add) a copy (front and back) of your valid California Teaching Credential(s) or Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit
