Prevention and Education

Education
  • IUSD provides tobacco-use prevention education to students in grades 4-12 that focuses on information about tobacco products, including the harms they cause, as well as the deceptive marketing strategies used by tobacco companies to increase use among teens. Students are educated on refusal skills and given opportunities to practice those skills.
  • IUSD provides Tobacco and Vaping prevention and intervention asynchronous lessons at the secondary level.
  • IUSD and our schools provide staff and parent education workshops/trainings throughout the school year.
  • In addition to age-appropriate education for elementary school students through the D.A.R.E program, students in middle and high school receive vaping prevention education through health classes and other resources available on campuses. This includes:

    1. The You and Me, Together Vape-Free curriculum, a middle and high school program that is 6 lessons, approximately 50 minutes each.

    2. Follow-up discussion guides aimed at fostering open-ended conversations between youth and parents or trusted adults on various e-cigarette-related topics.

    3. Online quiz games, worksheets, presentations, resources, and other materials designed to tackle key factors associated with youth e-cigarette use.

  • The Irvine Parent Education Program is hosting Vape and Tobacco Parent Workshops.
