Educationally Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS) are provided to students receiving special education services. These services are provided when students have significant social, emotional and/or behavioral needs that impede their ability to benefit from their special education services, supports, and placement.
A student who has not responded to Positive Behavior Intervention and supports and whose social, emotional, and/or behavioral concerns are adversely impacting their educational performance may benefit from this related service. Examples of adverse impact may include but are not limited to: lack of progress on goals/objectives, declining grades, chronic absences, and suspensions.
Irvine Unified School District employs therapists and counselors known as ERMHS Specialists to conduct assessments and provide therapeutic supports to our students. These services may be provided in multiple settings in the form of individual, group, consult, parent and guardian support.
Educationally Related Mental Health Services must be discussed and consented to prior to implementation by the IEP team.
