Parent & Family Engagement

IUSD provides multiple ways for parents/guardians of English Learners and immigrant students to be involved in the work of the school and the learning of their children. Seminars, workshops, and course offerings provide opportunities for parents/guardians to access district and community resources, to develop an understanding of the learning process, to learn and practice effective strategies that support student learning at home, to establish home/school connections, and become active participants of the learning community.

Parental notification and language support

IUSD provides required annual communication to parents/guardians in a timely manner. IUSD has a team of district employees who can provide language support (interpretations) for parents in multiple languages for a variety of settings and meetings. Contact your school site for assistance.

In an effort to increase communication and understanding between parents and IUSD, parents are invited to attend any or all of the free meetings and workshops offered by the IPEP (Irvine Parent Educational Program). More information can be found at this link:  Community Resources

How to get involved

  • Irvine Parent Educational Programs (IPEP):  IPEP offers a variety of workshops focused on topics important to parents of IUSD students. Experienced teachers and instructors facilitate the interactive workshops, engaging participants in conversations and hands-on activities.

  • ELAC (English Learner Advisory Committee): An ELAC committee is required if there are more than 21 English Learners at any particular school.  For more information about a specific school site's ELAC committee, please contact that school site directly.
  • DELAC (District English Learner Advisory Committee):  DELAC is comprised of representatives from each school's ELAC.  The committee's role is to advise the district on programs and services for English Learner students.

We cordially invite parents to attend any or all of the DELAC Meetings.  Dates and times of the meeting can be found by clicking here:  ELAC/DELAC information
