In the Theater Tech courses, students learn stage and set design, set construction, sound and lighting engineering, and theater management. In the Music Tech courses, students use digital instruments, such as keyboards guitars, and drums to compose and produce music for a variety of industry related projects. Students learn teamwork, creativity and problem solving skills as they prepare for stage and music productions at their school and showcase their crew's work at regional competitions. The creativity and innovation skills are essential to any firm requiring design or communication specialists, and skills learned in these courses crosses over to all careers and higher education programs.

 

Program Details

Theater Tech and Music Tech Pathways Introductory and advanced courses are offered.

Theater Technology: Students learn stage and set design, set construction, sound and lighting engineering, and theater management. Teamwork, creativity and problem solving skills will be enhanced as they prepare for stage productions at your school and showcase your theater crew's work at competitions.

Theater Tech Summer Boot Camp: A Theater Tech summer camp is offered through our partnership with Coastline ROP. Students meet with industry professionals and learn set design and build techniques, and sound and lighting design in this one week summer program. Students get a head start in preparing for fall productions at their school.

Music Technology: Many industries utilize music production in their products and promotional materials. In this course students use digital instruments; electronic keyboards, drums, guitars; to compose and produce music for a variety industry related projects.

Participating Schools

Theater Tech is offered at Irvine High School,Northwood High School,Portola High School,University High School, and Woodbridge High School.



Music Tech is offered at Creekside High School and University High School.



Theater Tech Summer Boot Camp is offered at Woodbridge High School. Open to all students.

Coastline ROP (Regional Occupation Program): The district's partnership with Coastline ROP provides opportunities for students to explore careers in all fifteen CA recognized industry sectors through after school and summer courses. These opportunities include courses in Theater and Music Technology and many other high demand careers, such as Healthcare, Retail Sales, EMT and Sports Medicine, and internships in a variety of industry sector courses.
