Elementary School Art

All K-6 teachers in Irvine Unified School District are supported in the visual arts. The visual arts curriculum incorporates the National Core Arts Standards  and the Common Core State Standards. Professional development in the visual arts includes the collaborative development of lessons, lesson study, action research on curriculum implementation, and engagement in scoring and developing assessments in the visual arts.

Grades 1-6 receive a one-hour art lesson once every six weeks, which is provided by the district's skilled and credentialed visual art teachers. Lessons are based upon the Irvine Unified School District Art Matrix Plan and the National Core Art Standards.

Our students' artwork is displayed in shows throughout Orange County such as: the Imagination Celebration, Young Master's Art Show, and Laguna Festival of the Arts. IUSD elementary art work consistently has an extremely strong showing in county juried art shows, and art from the district has been used on several occasions for the Imagination Celebration Poster for all of Orange County. Student artwork has been selected for national recognition for the National Foundation for the Improvement of Education. To view the artwork that was displayed click here.
