SPECIAL EDUCATION

ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATION - 6159

The primary responsibility of the Irvine Unified School District is to provide an appropriate educational program and related services for individuals with exceptional needs. In the case where an appropriate program within the Irvine Unified School District or a neighboring district is not available, programs and related services will be sought from outside private agencies. These services may serve as guidelines for placement and as a part of a child’s Individualized Education Program. In considering the assignment for private school, the procedures listed below will be followed:

Eligibility

  1. A student is eligible for funding for private placement only after he/she has been found eligible by the district’s Evaluation and Planning Committee.

  2. Only handicapped students are eligible for such funding.

  3. Only certified private, non-sectarian schools for the handicapped are eligible to provide these educational services.
