NHS BosMUN

Northwood High School's Model United Nations (MUN) team showcased its expertise at the prestigious Boston Invitational Model United Nations Invitational Conference (BosMUN), receiving awards in Verbal Commendations, Honorable Mention and Best Delegate. The team was the sole California delegation, underscoring Northwood’s dedication and commitment to the program. This was the first time they had attended the conference after the pandemic.

The conference, sponsored by Boston University, drew more than 1800 high school delegates and 200 teacher advisors from schools across the United States and around the globe.

The Northwood MUN team received commendations in various categories, including:

  • Verbal Commendations: Benjamin Lin, Matthew Lin and Anthony Park.
  • Honorable Mention: Aishwarya Ramasubramanian, Jamie Fry and Lauren Low
  • Best Delegate In Committee (Equivalent to 1st Place): Arjun Patel

MUN is a competitive platform where students are assigned a country and a topic, necessitating comprehensive research on both the issue's background and the UN's involvement, along with understanding their country's policy. Participants then advocate for solutions aligned with their country's stance. In committee sessions, referred to as competitions, delegates deliver speeches, engage in negotiations with counterparts from other countries, and collaboratively formulate solutions that are subsequently presented and voted upon at the conference's conclusion.

With a wide range of committees, the conference allowed students to learn more about the roles of international organizations, how they can relate to each other and how they can become their own leaders, as well as showcase their expertise during several committee competitions.

The diverse committees at BosMUN covered a spectrum of topics, from the environment to humanitarian matters and a mock Supreme Court. Awards were distributed based on the quality of speeches, commitment to delegates' positions, and collaborative abilities.

Join us in congratulating the Northwood High School MUN team on an outstanding conference!
