The following information is provided to assist you through the enrollment process.
Where do I go to enroll?
- Initial data entry takes place online using the IUSD On-Line Data Entry Process. (See below) Verification of enrollment takes place at your neighborhood school during regular office hours, or at One Stop Enrollment during the summer. For Kindergarten students, each elementary school holds Kindergarten Round-Up meetings in March or April. Information is posted on the main district web site as well as in the Irvine World News. You may look up your neighborhood assigned schools on the web, or you may refer to the Attendance Area Maps to get a rough idea of your neighborhood school(s).
What documents are required?
What is the minimum or maximum age for enrollment in school?
- Only children who reach the age of five on or before December 2 of the school year are eligible for enrollment in Kindergarten at the beginning of the school year. By state law, no exceptions can be made. Click here for additional information about Kindergarten.
- It is not our practice to enroll any student who has already completed four years of high school. A student new to the district who has reached their 18th birthday, and cannot complete diploma requirements in one school year, is typically directed to the Community College.
What is the best way to complete the paperwork? .
- For students new to the district, an on-line data entry process is available. You must have a valid address in the city of Irvine to use this system. Verification of residence and immunizations is required prior to completing the entire enrollment process. Additional information will be required by the school.
- Once Irvine residency has been established, you may fill out the information on-line, or you may use a computer at the school site or local library, or at the One Stop Enrollment site during two weeks in the summer.
- Once you have completed on-line data entry, IUSD will still be require residence verification prior to accepting your completed forms. This is done at the school in which you are enrolling.
May I enroll in a school other than our neighborhood school?
- An Open Enrollment Policy is maintained whereby students residing in IUSD may elect to attend any school within the District. This policy carries many conditions including:
- First priority goes to students living in the school's assigned attendance area.
- Space is available. (Check the list of Closed Schools)
- Approvals are made on an annual basis only
May I enroll during a standard school vacation period in my country?
- It is our practice not to enroll a student during any regularly calendared school vacation period in their previous school, nor if you plan to re-enroll in your previous school within 90 days. Students who meet the residency requirements, and wish to enroll at the end of their native country's vacation period, will be enrolled.
Is language testing required?
