As IUSD kicked off the 2016-17 school year on August 24, it opened two new schools; Portola High School, the District’s fifth comprehensive high school, and Beacon Park K-8. You may have already heard about the Orange County Register’s laptop program, which enables supporters of local schools to dispatch a Chromebook to their favorite K-12 campus every time they purchase a new annual subscription to the newspaper. Well, thanks to that program -- forged from a unique partnership involving the Register, FivePoint Communities and the Orange County Department of Education -- 140 Samsung Chromebooks are on their way to classrooms in Irvine.
