IUSD in the News: Woodbury students stage a flash mob in celebration of the school's staff

Kids from Woodbury Elementary School took a unique approach to celebrating their teachers and staff Wednesday, staging a choreographed flash mob during a morning assembly. As the Orange County Register's Samantha Schaefer reports, students rehearsed their dance moves at home and during lunch for about a month before the seemingly impromptu performance.

IUSD in the News: Northwood High and Sierra Vista Middle School make headlines

A pair of Irvine schools made headlines recently on the Orange County Register’s website. For starters, Register reporter Samantha Schaefer previewed Northwood High School's third annual Timberwolf 5K Run/Walk, which will raise money for Northwood's athletics program and Families Forward. IUSD in the News: Awards banquet spotlights students' academic and athletic skills

IUSD students who have excelled in the classroom and on the athletic field were honored this week at the 38th annual Irvine Senior Scholar Athlete Awards Banquet, sponsored by Irvine Valley College and hosted by The Exchange Club of Irvine. The June 6 banquet, held at IVC’s Performing Arts Center, recognized a total of 32 seniors – that's four boys and four girls from each of IUSD’s comprehensive high schools – who distinguished themselves with their athleticism and academic skills. The Orange County Register’s Tim Burt covered the banquet.

IUSD in the News: Irvine students earn honors at Orange County Science and Engineering Fair

A University High School sophomore will participate in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles in May after wowing a panel of judges during this month's county competition. Sanjna Ghanshani was among more than 400 students to take part in the Orange County Science and Engineering Fair, which was sponsored by the Broadcom Foundation. Yet she was one of only two selected to compete at the Intel event. The announcement came during the county awards ceremony on April 10.

IUSD in the News: Venado Middle School staff member gives thanks to four Marines

Good morning, and welcome back! We hope you all had a fine Thanksgiving holiday with friends and loved ones. And in case you didn't see Friday's Orange County Register, we thought we’d point out a great Thanksgiving story involving our very own Rosemarie Klucsar, a nutrition services manager at Venado Middle School.  Each year, Mrs. Klucsar asks students from Venado and Brywood Elementary School to pen thank-you notes to U.S. Marines.
