Congratulations to University High School Principal John Pehrson, who has been named a “Champion for Character” by the California Interscholastic Federation’s Southern Section.
The CIF award annually recognizes the finest in sportsmanship, character, integrity and athletics in three categories: student athletes, administrators and schools. Last year, Uni coach Chris Conlin earned the accolade.
The CIF Southern Section will honor Pehrson and his fellow 2010-11 recipients at a special dinner in October.
IUSD students who have excelled in the classroom and on the athletic field were honored this week at the 38th annual Irvine Senior Scholar Athlete Awards Banquet, sponsored by Irvine Valley College and hosted by The Exchange Club of Irvine. The June 6 banquet, held at IVC’s Performing Arts Center, recognized a total of 32 seniors – that's four boys and four girls from each of IUSD’s comprehensive high schools – who distinguished themselves with their athleticism and academic skills. The Orange County Register’s Tim Burt covered the banquet.
Fifteen students from Irvine, Northwood, University and Woodbridge high schools have earned prestigious scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship Corp., the Daily Pilot reported this week. And there may be more to come.
