School Lunches

Q: Will IUSD offer grab and go lunches for students participating in the Virtual Academy and hybrid academic models?

A: Yes.  However, meals will not be provided to all students for free.  Meals will be served and students will be charged based on their eligibility.  Meals for students in the Virtual Academy and hybrid academic models will be available at designated site(s) throughout the district.

During the COVID-19 school closures in spring 2020, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) provided a waiver to school districts throughout the country that allowed the District to serve meals to students without requiring a student ID or payment.  This waiver is not in place for the 2020-21 school year.  Meals during the 2020-21 school year will be available for purchase.  If your student qualifies for free or reduced priced meals, they will be charged accordingly.

Q: Will students participating in-person classes have staggered lunch times?

A: Yes, there will be staggered lunch times as determined by the local school site.

 

Q: Will students be physically distanced during lunch?

A: IUSD will follow the guidelines established for OC schools for physical distancing, which includes areas where students eat lunch. 

 

Q: If students eat in the classroom, will there be rules for what types of food are allowed in the classroom, in case a child has a severe allergy?

A: IUSD schools will continue to follow established food safety rules and protocols.

 

Q: Will limited groups of students be able to walk through lunch lines?

A: IUSD schools will implement physical distancing measures for lunch time, including lines, to the fullest extent possible.
