Vista Verde Standardized Test Results
At Vista Verde we take pride in our academic program that emphasizing higher level thinking skills as well as the development of the whole child. Our teachers recognize that true achievement encompasses character and service to others in addition to academic learning. Our teachers have high expectations for academic achievement and are invested in supporting all children to reach their potential.
Vista Verde is very proud of our recent student achievement scores, having raised our API score on the STAR test from 953 to 959. For the last eight years, Vista Verde has been fortunate to enjoy a statewide ranking of 10 out of 10. Additionally, we have received a similar schools ranking of 10 out of 10 for the sixth year in a row. This measure compares our student achievement on the CST test to other schools statewide with similar demographic characteristics, educational challenges, and opportunities.
However, we view the annual STAR test as only one measure of our student achievement. Teachers routinely examine their classroom and district assessments to determine what students have learned and what concepts may need additional remediation or extension. Additionally, our teachers engage in collegial conversations during Professional Learning Community meetings where they share assessment results across the grade level or department to determine what instructional strategies have been most effective with students. To Vista Verde teachers, the focus remains on learning from the most current assessments available so that adjustments in instruction can occur in a timely manner. Our goal is to continually examine and reevaluate how successful we have been as teachers by looking at how well students have learned.
As part of this continuous improvement effort, we create our Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) each year to provide academic goals for each grade level and department in core curricular areas. The SPSA is based on relevant and timely student data that illustrates our program strengths and identifies areas for continued growth. We use our SPSA plan to guide our professional development each year, to assist us in prioritizing our resources and to create a focus for intentional instruction for every teacher. With the partnership of our parent community, our business partners, our staff and students, we look forward to continually improving our program each year.
