Students in the Irvine Unified School District have once again posted high marks while continuing the trend of steady gains on tests administered through the state’s Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program. Individual scores from this year’s California Standards Tests (CSTs), which measure student knowledge of the state’s rigorous content standards in grades two through 11, were mailed out in August. The Irvine Unified School District congratulates Woodbridge High teacher Joan Malkin and her ninth-grade History Day team, which recently earned second-place honors in a national history competition at the University of Maryland.
Contending in the National History Day Contest’s newly added web category, Malkin’s students created an informative and interactive website on the Constitutional Convention, bringing to life the overarching theme of “Conflict and Compromise.”
Malkin, named IUSD’s High School Teacher of the Year and one of five Orange County Teachers of the Year for 2008, is now in the running to be recognized as a California Teacher of the Year.
