Northwood Elementary Reading Olympics
Go For the Gold!

Dear Students and Families,

We are excited to begin the Northwood Elementary Reading Olympics program for the 2014-2015 school year. The goal of this reading incentive program is to increase students' reading for enjoyment and improve their reading skills. Students are eligible to earn a Reading Olympics medal at the end of each trimester.

THE DATES FOR THE READING OLYMPICS PROGRAM

THIS YEAR ARE:

  • 1st Trimester – Sept. 15, 2014 – Nov. 30, 2014
  • 2nd Trimester – Dec. 1, 2014 – Feb. 28, 2015
  • 3rd Trimester – March 1, 2014 – May 25, 2015

KEEP TRACK OF THE MINUTES READ EACH DAY

Reading logs are sent home monthly and are available on the Northwood Elementary website homepage.  Use this reading log to record the number of minutes read per night.  Please have a parent or guardian sign the reading log and turn the log into your teacher on the due date listed on the form.

Remember to only track minutes read outside of school and be honest when recording your minutes.  Being read to and/or reading with help are also acceptable.

PLAN FOR AND ATTAIN YOUR GOAL

Students who have reached the following goals will be awarded medals during end-of-trimester awards assemblies:

Gold:  2,500 minutes

Silver:  2,000 minutes

Bronze:  1,500 minutes

Additionally, all upper grade students must meet their Reading Counts monthly goal (6 points for 4th grade, 10 points for 5th grade, and 10 points for 6th grade) to be eligible for a medal.

Students who receive a medal will have their name displayed on our Reading Olympics bulletin board at Northwood at the end of each trimester.

If you have any questions about the Reading Olympics program, please contact your teacher or Mrs. Redd in the library.  Go for the Gold!
