Northwood Reading Olympics: Go for the Gold!

Dear Students and Families,

We are excited to begin the Northwood Elementary Reading Olympics program for the 2012-2013 school year. The goal of this reading incentive program is to increase students' reading for enjoyment and improve their reading skills. The program dates are September 2012 – May 2013. Students are eligible to earn a Reading Olympics medal during each of the three trimesters:

 First Trimester – September 10, 2012 – November 30, 2012
 Second Trimester – December 1, 2012 – February 28, 2013
 Third Trimester – March 1, 2013 – May 31, 2013

KEEP TRACK OF THE MINUTES READ EACH DAY
Reading logs are available on the Northwood Elementary website homepage. Use this reading log to record the number of minutes read per night. Please have a parent or guardian sign the reading log and turn the log into your teacher at the end of each month. Remember to only track minutes read outside of school and be honest at all times when recording the number of minutes read. Being read to and/or reading with help is also acceptable.

PLAN FOR AND ATTAIN YOUR GOAL
Students may earn a Reading Olympics medal for meeting overall trimester goals. Students who have reached the following goals will be awarded medals during end-of-trimester awards assemblies:

Gold Medal: 2,500 minutes

Silver Medal: 2,000 minutes

Bronze Medal: 1,500 minutes

Additionally, all upper grade students must meet their Reading Counts monthly goal (6 points for 4th grade, 10 points for 5th grade, and 10 points for 6th grade) to be eligible for a medal.

Students who receive a medal will have their name displayed on Northwood's Reading Olympics bulletin board at the end of each trimester.
If you have any questions about the Reading Olympics program, please contact your teacher.

Good luck and happy reading!
