Irvine Unified School District has a current enrollment of over 25,000 students and is a growing K-12 school district. The District is comprised of 22 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, 4 comprehensive high schools, and alternative and independent study high schools. IUSD has an operating budget in excess of $170,000,000.
Unified in 1973, the District has built an outstanding reputation for its widely diversified programs, decentralized management, and grade level options. Active participation by parents, students, and community partners is encouraged.
Irvine is a planned city with a population of over 170,000, approximately 50 miles south of Los Angeles. Situated within five miles of the Pacific coast and within two hours' driving time to the mountains, it enjoys year-round recreational opportunities.
The University of California, Irvine, is located within the city, as well as Concordia University (Lutheran), and Irvine Valley Community College.
