BOARD POLICY - 7112

The Board of Education believes schools that provide an excellent learning environment must be of sufficient enrollment for the learning program to perform effectively and for the services provided by the school to operate efficiently. The Board believes school capacity should be designed to accommodate peak enrollment and fluctuations in enrollment.

Targeted Average School Enrollment:

The targeted average school enrollment at each level is determined by giving consideration both to an effective learning environment and efficient operational costs.

  • Elementary school enrollment:  700 students.
  • K-8 school enrollment:  900 students.
  • Middle school enrollment:  900 students.
  • High school enrollment:  2200 students.

Peak School Capacity:

During periods of growth within the District, it may become necessary to exceed the average targeted school enrollment to accommodate peak enrollment periods and fluctuations in enrollment. School capacity shall not exceed the capacity that can be reasonably accommodated by the acreage, parking, and other elements of the campus infrastructure. Related considerations shall include traffic and childcare programs.

  • Elementary school peak capacity:  1200 students.
  • K-8 school peak capacity:  1200 students.
  • Middle school peak capacity:  1200 students.
  • High school peak capacity:  3200 students.

New School Capacity:

New schools should be designed with permanent facilities to house the targeted average school enrollment with provisions to increase capacity to accommodate peak enrollment periods and fluctuations in enrollment.

  • Elementary Schools: Permanent facilities to house 700 students with infrastructure provisions for relocatable buildings to house a peak of 1200 students.
  • K-8 Schools: Permanent facilities to house 900 students with infrastructure provisions for relocatable buildings to house a peak of 1200 students.
  • Middle Schools: Permanent facilities to house 900 students with infrastructure provisions for relocatable buildings to house a peak of 1200 students.
  • High Schools: Permanent facilities to house 2200 students with infrastructure provisions for permanent facilities and/or relocatable buildings to house a peak of 3200 students.
